STEP UP: Region 1 Summer School 2026
We are excited to announce the upcoming UAW Region 1 Summer School, taking place Tuesday, August 25, and Wednesday, August 26, 2026. This training will take place at UAW Region 1, located at 27800 George Merrelli Drive, Warren, MI 48092.
This two day educational event is open to all UAW members, new, seniority, and retirees, from every sector. Any Sector, Region, or Retiree can sign up for the workshops. We are not turning any member away.
These workshops will strengthen our union by equipping members with essential knowledge and confidence in the following areas:
Parliamentary Procedure Workshop
August 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Much of the business of our union takes place at union meetings. This workshop is a useful introduction for rank and file members to understand the structure of union meetings and the role Robert's Rules of Order plays in moving our agenda along.
Standing Committee Workshop
August 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendance both days is required for certification.
This workshop focuses on the duties and responsibilities of standing committee members. It will also provide ideas for recruiting and engaging members in committee work, how to plan an event or project, steps to run an effective meeting, and how to report out at their local union meeting.
Competitive Shops / Independent Part Suppliers (CS/IPS) Grievance Handling
August 25 and 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendance both days is required for certification.
A special breakout session for those in this sector to address sector specific procedures. This workshop covers the main roles of a grievance handler, defines what a grievance is and is not, explains the grievance process through five stages, and teaches participants how to properly investigate, write, present, and defend a grievance. The legal requirements and protections of union representatives will also be discussed.
Technical and Office Professionals (T.O.P.) Grievance Handling
August 25 and 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendance both days is required for certification.
A special breakout session for those in this sector to address sector specific procedures. This workshop covers the main roles of a grievance handler, defines what a grievance is and is not, explains the grievance process through five stages, and teaches participants how to properly investigate, write, present, and defend a grievance. We encourage all members to take advantage of this free opportunity to gain experience, engage, and build solidarity across our Region. Members who complete a workshop will receive a certificate of completion.
Please select a time that does not conflict with your work schedule. Any lost time is the sole responsibility of the local union. These workshops were scheduled to avoid costing local unions any lost time.
